      <image:title>Paintings - Tara</image:title>
<image:caption>A Little help @ Assam 36x48” oil on canvas I met Tara at the house where I stayed while in Assam. The “lady of the house” takes care of the family and the house, while Tara was their young, paid household helper, living under a covered area outside of the main house. I noticed that she helps with the washing. Often smiling when we met, I asked if I could take a picture of her; she was fascinated with my phone as I captured her shy smile. I wondered what she thought of me, a total stranger who does not speak their tongue. I feel sure that she holds many untold stories, and I just could not forget about her. I know she is safe there. Sweet Tara on my mind. *For purchase, please email at yukotaylorart@gmail.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Paintings - Gathering</image:title>
<image:caption>family @ Assam 36 x 46” oil on canvas Ramon took me to meet his neighbors, who showed me their threading and weaving tradition. I walked slowly with them enjoying the air and nature. He told me he fished in the pond in the back, which appeared to be too small to feed the village. But he told me that it floods in the summer, making a much larger lake. I also noticed the seemingly endless acres of rice farms; this is where the time passes slowly, the air holding the right amount of moisture, and with the people living naturally with the land of Assam. It feels safe here. Behind the humble house, walking into the courtyard, met women and children who were “gathering.” ItwasFebruary in Assam. *Please email at yukotaylorart@gmail.com for purchase.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Paintings - A Neighbor</image:title>
<image:caption>30 x 40” oil on Canvas Among the younger women, was a neighbor. She stood tall and did not sit around with the other women but was watching the young boys running around and being naughty. She appeared to have an authoritarian position among the women. The slight age of her face reflected her experiences in life…and perhaps she is carrying another life with her? Her experience with the land and families and the hardship and happiness of life’s tides are keeping her grounded. To me, this is beauty. The mature air of her presence gives the people around her a sense of tranquility. *Please email yukotaylorart@gmail.com for purchasing information.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Paintings - Weaving</image:title>
<image:caption>Crane’s return for a favor @ Assam 36 x 36” (24 x 36” oil on canvas and 12 x 36” Nihonga combination) After a mother showed me her loom’s threading, bright with the color of pink, she and another young woman sat behind the loom and started to weave. The loom was weathered as it sat outdoors, but she took time and carefully wove one thread at a time. Her elegance that she was born with, reminded me of the Japanese folk tale “ Crane’s return the favor”. As the tale goes, a man saves a crane that got hurt by hunters. The next day she tells the man that she is going in a room to make something and that he is not to come in until she is finished. She tells the man to go to the markets the next morning to sell this most beautiful cloth no one has ever seen. The man’s curiosity took over and he peeked in, realizing that the woman is actually the crane that he saved. When the crane saw that the man has found out her true identity, she said that she cannot stay there anymore and flies away to never come back. I attached my crane in Japanese style painting next to her portrait. *Please email at yukotaylorart@gmail.com for purchase</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ramon @ Assam 12 x 9” Nihonga, Kozo washi wrapped on birch panel Ramon lived in this local village who was just so very sweet-hearted. Helooksafterhisparents, a sweet family. They were very hospitable when I visited, serving rice cakes and tea. Always hand-made with lots of care and love. In his devotion to caring for his parents, he has chosen not to marry a bride who is unable to follow his family traditions. Some time ago, someone gifted him a pig as a blessing or as a dinner for his marriage reception, but he has chosen to wait for the right girl. So now, years later, the pig has gotten so big under his care, that it cannot move anymore! But I did see one more little piglet in the yard…maybe that is still edible for the feast? Ramon deserves the best. yukotaylorart@gmail.com</image:caption>
